Description:

The Knights of the Golden Phoenix are an order of warriors, rangers, priests, and bards. They work together or in smaller regiments to fight the evil that threatens their land. The Knights are lead by the eldest son of the Tolindar family (currently Kaarnin son of Verhannis, founder of the knights). This leader is named the Coronal.

The Knights accept all goodly races including; elves, half-elves, humans, and dwarfs (however very rare). To enter the knights the prospect must undergo a strict initiation and training where they are subject to both mental and physical stamina tests. The prospective knight must also prove his loyalty and kind heart to the brotherhood by accepting a quest. Only after the quest is completed will he be accepted into the Knights of the Golden Phoenix.

Requirements:

As stated above, to become a Knight, the character must be of good alignment and must also meet the following minimum requirements:

Ranger 16 Dex 15 Wis 15 Str
Warrior 16 Str 14 Dex
Priest 16 Int 15 Wis
Bard 15 Int 16 Wis 14 Dex

Role:

The Knights of the Golden Phoenix are committed to protection of their realm and the people within it. They will not hesitate to send out a regiment to help local farmers or villages rid themselves of invading orc or goblin hordes. The Knights are not only there to fight evil, they will also help farmers who need a hand building barns or houses. The Knights believe that to help your neighbor is to help yourself.

This unity of the Realm of Davenshire has caused some conflict with other neighboring realms. Communities seeing the prosperity of Davenshire have approached the Coronal and asked to join the realm or have in some instances, packed up and moved into Davenshire. One case in particular nearly started a war in which Davenshire was accused of stealing the citizens of a neighboring realm. The ruler of the area in question was a ruthless man who taxed his people until they were nearly destitute. The people fed up with their ruler, and had no means to fight back decided it better to move. So many people fled the realm that the cruel ruler declared war on Davenshire on the grounds that the Coronal was responsible for the demise of his kingdom. It didn't come to a war, however the neighboring kingdom fell into despair and the people rose up to overthrow their ruler. They then asked that they be included in the realm of Davenshire. Thus the realm grew.

The role of a knight is to uphold the law of the land, maintain the balance between good and evil, and to protect the weak and innocent from wrong doing.

Joining the Knighthood:

To enter the knighthood, the character must show his worthiness to other knights. In this, the prospective knight must show that he is of good character and is strong in will. The new recruit must prove that he will not deter from the path of righteousness, nor will he harm any who are weaker than him for his own gains. A prospective knight is a classic example of good in the world.

Oftentimes, a prospective knight will not be asked to prove himself. Usually, the candidate is unaware that he is being scrutinized. This is because the character that wants to become a knight is accompanied by a Knight of the Golden Phoenix, who of sufficient rank can vouch for the candidate when he is ready and willing to travel to Vernabec, the capital of Davenshire. Here the prospective knight will undergo three days of purging, where he cleanses his soul and presents himself to the Coronal and the ruling council, as well as presenting himself to Cuthellon, the patron God of the Knights of the Golden Phoenix.

When a character wants to join the knights, he usually would go to a temple of Cuthellon and ask the priests there about the knighthood. Within a day or so a knight or two may approach him about entering the knighthood or they may just join the party not asking any questions and act as if no inquiry was made at all.

Weapon Proficiencies:

A Knight of the Golden Phoenix may be proficient in any weapon of his choosing.

Non-Weapon Proficiencies:

Because of the nature of the knighthood, (a wide range of character classes), no two knights have the same proficiencies. Therefore, given this varied arrangement, any who join the knights are given the chance to acquire two bonus proficiencies of their choice. However, they can only acquire these proficiencies when they go to train at the knights headquarters in Davenshire or one of their outposts.

Armor & Equipment:

A knight is able to use any type of armor or equipment that is available to him. Some of the knights may be required to use special weapons or armor depending on their class or which regiment they belong to.
